Pilbara Marble
Thought to be over three billion years old and containing some of the Earth’s oldest rock formations, the Pilbara sits within the traditional land of the Nyiyaparli People and is one of the largest regions in the remote north of Western Australia.
Over aeons, the ancient landscapes of the Pilbara have grown rich in minerals, creating the most unique and striking natural stone on Earth. We are privilegedto access these resources which have since become synonymous with Swan Residences.

Known for its indigenous peoples, ancient landscapes and vast mineral deposits, the Pilbara offers an abundance of remarkable natural wonders. Twisting gorges, wide mountain ranges, sweeping planes, secluded waterfalls, rivers, billabongs and red earth are defining features, together culminating in a landscape of extraordinary and diverse natural beauty, with moments of indigenous rock art dating back 40,000 years.
Over the course of the Earth's history, immense pressures and temperatures have compressed and heated limestone in this region to create a unique and geologically exceptional rock. The stone itself is marble, yet has been formed so well that it mimics properties of granite; mainly it's exceptional density through it's very fine grains. Pilbara marble is three times less porous than the standard Carrara marble, and is three times harder and more hard waring.

The story goes that an Italian geologist came to the area to find diamonds. Instead, finding red marble, he took it back to Italy and clad his bathroom in it. After again returning to Australia, he went on to uncover a number of other types of marble, and thus grew the marble mining business. This marble, sourced by Frank and his team from the earth of the Pilbara, has become synonymous with Swan Residences, with nothing like it found anywhere else in the world.
